Music & Me
Hey everyone! I'm Reece Evans, and I'm a sophomore here at Converse. I'm really excited for this semester and to be in this class with all of you. I'm a member of the Cross Country & Track and Field teams. I've never cared too much about what type of music I was listening to. When I run, I kind of just put on a playlist and really listen to the music.
I've grown up in South Carolina my whole life. I was born in Conway and grew up on the beach. I love to surf, play sports, and around middle school age, I taught myself how to play drums. I have an older brother and one dog, Bella.
1. My current go-to :
Recently, when I have been getting in my car to drive somewhere, I noticed myself putting on the song OOWEE by Torey D'Shaun. I love the lyrics and the way the beat flows along with them. When I listen to music, I prefer to listen to a faster-paced and upbeat song. One thing I am fond of is how he layers an acoustic guitar over the production while keeping it minimal.Throughout the song, Torey is singing with confidence and carrying himself with self-respect. Along with this, the production isn't overbearing, allowing his vocals to stand out more.
2. Personally meaningful to me :
Last year, I really liked listening to Good News by Shaboozey. It stuck with me throughout last year because I found myself searching for more good news, trying to find a positive. The summer before my freshman year of college, I was battling against a sickness that I just couldn't get over. I was going back and forth constantly to get blood drawn, all just for the doctors to be at a loss for what was wrong. I wasn't able to train properly for my first season of Cross Country and felt like my coach was giving up on me. Going into the start of my college career, I also felt a little lost. It was the first time I was going to be away from my parents and my dogs. I was having a hard time adjusting and longing for home. Then, in December, my parents called to tell me that we had to put down my childhood dog. He was the first dog I had, and he was definitely my best friend. So I just listened to the song while searching for any bit of good news I could find.
3. Music I don't connect with :
I don't necessarily have a certain song that I don't connect with. A genre of music that I don't connect with would be Pop music. I don't have a specific example because if I don't like the music, I just don't listen to it or tune it out if I am with other people. I don't think it is fair to tell someone they can't listen to music they enjoy just because I don't like it or agree with the artist.

Hi, Reece! The song that I liked the most was "OWEE" because it sounds like something my best friend would listen to! She loves Christian rap, so I will definitely have to show her it. The song that I found the most interesting was "Good News" by Shaboozey. I have heard this song before, but I never actually listened to how deep the lyrics were. I am so sorry for everything you had to go through, but I am glad this song gave you comfort!
ReplyDeleteHi Reece ! By reading your blog I discover a new song: OOWE by Torey D'Shaun. I really din't know it but I have to say that I really appreciated it ! It was really interesting to discover more about yourself even though we are in the same sport's team.
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you connected “Good News” by Shaboozey to such a personal part of your life. Starting college is already a big adjustment, and adding health struggles and losing your dog must have been incredibly tough I think it’s powerful that music helped you through it. Out of all the songs you mentioned, “Good News” stood out to me the most because of its message of hope and patience. Your post reminded me that music can sometimes provide the encouragement we need when everything else feels overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteHi Reece! I love your love for music! I talk to you every single day and to hear the music you play and how it connects to your personal life is inspiring. I absolutely love that you incorporated a christian song into this blog and not only used it as just a song you like, but also for your faith! I love learning more about your music interests!
